Do I need visa on my connecting flight?

See table of contents

The information in this article is for Filipinos only who are traveling to Canada.

Transits that definitely needs visa.

  • Europe (except the ones mentioned in the next section)
  • Unite States of America
  • Australia (Believe me people asked before)
  • New Zealand (Since some people asked about Australia, might as well include NZ)

Transit visa or visa is conditional

  • Japan
    • You can transit without a visa ONLY if:
      • You have a confirmed onward ticket within the same calendar day
      • You stay within the international transit area of the airport
      • You have the necessary documents needed for the next country of destination
    • If you are traveling through Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) or Kansai International Airport in Osaka, you can transit without a visa if:
      • You have a confirmed onward ticket within the next 72 hours
      • You stay within the international transit area of the airport
      • You have the necessary documents needed for the next country of destination

As long as di ka lang lalabas ng airport.

Di mo na kailangan ng visa as long as hindi ka lalabas ng airport.

  • Korea
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE) - Dubai
  • Qatar
  • Germany
  • Istanbul
  • London
  • Amsterdam

To be crystal clear. You will need a visa if you are planning to go out of the airport.

Transits that don't need visa at all

  • Singapore
  • Hong Kong
  • Malaysia
  • Taiwan
  • Canada
    • Seems ridiculous, but believe me, people have asked before if they need additional "transit" visa to transit inside Canada going to Canada. And of course the answer is "NO". Considering you're flying to Canada with a visa in the first place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Anu pwedeng gawin habang nag iintay sa connecting flight to Canada?

Para sakin, magkape para pakapagpoop na sa airport. Hindi comfortable magpoop sa eroplano, so mas okay sa airport.

How about the kids?

Yaan nyo nang maglaro at maglikot sa airport para tulog sa airplane.

How much connecting time do I need?

Outside Canada, 2hrs will suffice pero rushing towards your next flight. More is ideal para di rush.

Inside Canada, at your port of entry, usually 3hrs will be enough pero magru-rush with everything. More is recommended para enough time to work on your documents/papers.

In my connecting flights, kailangan ko ba kunin yung luggage and check-in ulit?

In most cases, if you book directly from the airlines' website, then no. It should be transfered internally by the airlines, even magkaibang airlines ang connecting. If this is NOT the case, then it will clearly show in your ticket that you need to self transfer your baggages. And this can always be the case when you book on third party websites like trip, cheapoair, etc.

Can I use my C1/D visa (seafarer's visa) to transit in the US?

As far as description ng C1/D Visa, it should only be used in transit to joining a ship as a crew PERO madami na rin nakapagshare sa group na nagamit nila ang C1/D visa nila to transit in the US going to Canada.

Para sakin ikaw na bahala if you'll take the risk.

Parang traffic light lang yan. Madaming nag sige takbo sa red light at sinuwerte naman nakalagpas sa intersection. Pero di mo alam kung suswertehin ka rin or makakabangga ka sa intersection pag ikaw na gumawa.
